Well, I didn’t make it to the other house yesterday. I got started putting things away here and realized I was going to have to deep clean the oldest daughters room. I had hoped that a bit of this and that would avoid the extra work but in the end decided I could not just shove things in there. I am glad that I made that decision. I found some things that needed some attention now, not later. Of all the rooms in the house that one will smell musty long before all the others. I found some things stuffed under the bed that needed to be cleaned from the soft layer of gray mold that had formed on them. Anything that we had while we lived in AZ that is leather or vinyl will form a soft layer of gray mold on it when the humidity goes up. Most of the jackets, shoes, and purses are gone but I found one of Savannah’s Bibles that she had put away and stored in the box that needed dire attention. I think it smells fine it was just that desert mold all over the cover that needed cleaning. I sometimes wonder if this desert mold was not part of what caused my oldest’s Lyme to start to flare up because in hindsight, that was when she began to manifest various health complications very shortly after we arrived in AZ during the monsoon season.
I am considering making this the occasion to remove the old mattress and box springs from her room. They have been in there for about as long as I can remember. I know I slept on that mattress set when I was kid…I suspect that part of the perpetual musty issue in that room is from the old mattress and box springs. Besides, the mattress we put in the other house a few years back is a better mattress, a bit too firm for my taste but certainly has more support. The problem is that the bed frame is for a double and the other mattress is a queen. It will require moving the headboard and foot board out that matches the dresser and chest of drawers.
My day yesterday, involved cleaning, and more sorting, and more disposal….which means the neater areas of my house are now all junked up again!! My thrift store pile here is growing bigger all the time. But I do feel like a lot was accomplished yesterday despite the mess that I made.
The good news is that Hubby got finished with the Honey House roof!! That turned out to be a more difficult job that he had anticipated but he feels confident that the roof is repaired and that we should have no more complications with it any time soon. There is still the small repair that needs to be done on the house roof. But because we are forecast rain the next two or three days, that will have to wait.
I have asked Hubby if he could help today move things out of both house that are bound for the thrift stores and to help me burn the mountain of trash building up at the back door at the other house. This would help me immensely and allow him a day to rest a bit. While he has not made a complaint, I sense that he could benefit from taking a day off to do some easier tasks.
Since it is my goal to get all the lose odds and ends cleaned out of the other house this week, I believe that getting the thrift store items gone will help me immensely. (Not so much to have to walk around and remove the temptation to keep something that we don’t really want or need.) Being that is already Thursday, I am trying not to doubt myself on this timeline that I have set for myself….particularly if we have rainy weather, too often the change in barometric pressure affects me in a negative way.
So with that thought in mind, I am off to go scrounge up some breakfast, and consider my day.
