It was an extremely restless day for hubby's dad and she really did her part today in taking care of her granddaddy. He is so attached to my husband that Dad gets agitated when he is out of the room for any length of time. Well, today that has been most of the day.
As is his habit at times when Hubby is out, the restlessness turns into moving from one room to another...back and forth in his wheelchair from the dinning room to the tv room. I know he is looking for his son but it does not seem to matter if we tell him where he is. This restless usually only gets him about half way when he calls the nearest person to come push him to the that other room. This can be quite time consuming...keeping an eye on him and being there to move him back and forth.
This morning there was personal stuff to attend to...and then this afternoon DH took my dad to get his blood drawn for the oncologist. After he came home from that I asked him to sit with his dad and watch some tv...immediately the dad went to sleep and after 30 minutes, hubby got up and told his dad that he was going to the garage to replace a radiator in the car.
DH was not out of the room three minutes before his dad was on the move again. To make matters worse, he had to go to town to get more parts AND then one of the daughters called to tell him we were out of chicken feed.....it was almost 8pm by the time we got back home....(BTW, it was snowing and the roads were slick so there was no hurrying that trip.)
We are still keeping a fairly close watch on him. And particularly on days like this because he is unpredictable. We are still averaging at least one fall a week. The other night he got up out of bed and fell. This time he busted up his ear and put a nice little gash in his elbow. Hubby thinks he probably broke the cartilage in his ear. We are just thankful that was all that was hurt.
