Last night Hubby’s Dad complained of some chest pain along with pain down the left arm. The first concern was of course that he was having a heart attack. His daughter got him sat up and shifted a bit and he belched a couple of times. His color was pretty good and his blood pressure was good… The hospice nurse was notified.
That is the thing about the hospice status, normally you will call 911 in a situation like a possible heart attack and let the paramedics decide if the patient needs to be stabilized. With hospice patients, you call hospice first. Well there was a bit of a time there where we were worried about him, particularly when he said he had some more pain. We called the nurse again and she suggested antacids and that his nurse would be out to see him. His vitals continued to be stable and she deemed it was probably gas. By this time he was in bed and had been asleep so the attention was probably an inconvenience to him. We will continue to monitor his color and vitals.
The other dad went in today to get his blood count checked again. It was deemed necessary that he get this shot that is supposed to make his body work harder and making the red blood cells. He goes back in two weeks for another shot. Other than this he seems to be getting along pretty well. Not that having low blood count is not a concern. In the past week or so he has come outside to see what we have been up to. He is a bit slower than he was this time last year but he is still being as self-sufficient as he can be.
