We started the day off with the Dad getting Hubby and I up. Hubby got up and helped put his dad in the Geri Chair and in the process did something to hurt his back again. He came back to bed moaning in pain. So the next time his dad called out, which was only minutes, I got up to see if I could get his dad to be quiet so we could stay in bed until at least 6:30. It didn't work. I had hardly gotten back to bed when he started hollering again. The long and short of this story is that we were up before seven after a night of intermittent sleep. I had been sleeping in the guest room (living room) until last week. That mattress in there seems to be better for my neck.
Hubby and I slipped off for a couple of hours this morning to go shopping. Then after lunch he went out to finish up the brooder coop. The meat birds are supposed to arrive Wednesday. Years ago when we first started the farmers market he made PVC market tent as we became more professional looking the old tent frame has been store and used in the barn for various things. (We hung garlic on it one year!) Now it is going to be used as the brooder coop.
I was going to mow but the mower wouldn't start so I wandered off to work in the garden. I pounded in another 17 pickets and then mulched all the rest of the tomato plants. (I am guessing about 35-40 plants) I also laid down some mulch in the middle of the row with the goal of mulching down weeds. I put on some of the tomato cages but I ran out of steam before I got that completed.
I came away from today's work deciding that if I sell enough tomatoes this year that I am going to buy some of those cheap white fencing stakes for the tomato cages. They will not last 75 years like the fence posts that we put in every year but then neither am I. I honestly do not know how old these fence posts are but I am pretty sure they are something that my grandfather had put up when he was a strong and healthy man and something my dad took down years later. They laid in the junk pile for more years. If I did the math right, my grandfather died 46 years ago..
I have no pictures of my labors today. I was too tired to care when I came in.
The oldest daughter fed her granddaddy supper. She said that he was pretty clear of mind and in good humor. She accidentally spilled some water on him and she said his eyes were smiling and he almost laughed. But then she has a way with him that the rest of us do not.
