Today was a bit warmer but the wind chill only made it feel marginally so. I got a late start but managed to get all of my spring (pre-late frost) seeds in the grown. I love to try variety and I admit that often I have far too much it. This year I worked hard when ordering my seeds to keep my selections a bay and more central on those things that I can sell.
We have worked a couple of small farmers markets for several years now. It has always been my dream to work a large market but honestly, the circumstances of our lives has not allowed for that kind of vision…so we stick to focusing on the smaller markets where exotic names such as Tronchuda Kale would get passed over for the more familiar looking Blue Curled Kale. And for the most part people are not interested in the nutritional value of the Atomic Red Carrot, they just want what is normal to them. So this year in hopes of supplying the markets with produce that people want, I stuck mostly to the norms and only tossed in a few seeds for the occasional adventurous shopper who would delight in something new like the Desiree Dwarf Blauwschokkers.
Other folks in the family did other things. Hubby who has a bad seasonal cold spent the day in resting and the watch care of his dad.
Daughter #1 has been doing the cooking the past few days. Then this afternoon she took off for a two hour stroll. She is having some real weakness issues related to her Lyme treatment but light exercise is part of the therapy for recovery, gentle strength training to help the body get rid of the toxins and keep up its strength. She has gone to walking back into the empty fields, which soon enough will not be empty. I have no idea if she walks the perimeter or just to the back 40…but when she goes she is gone for a long while. I imagine she is like her mother, walking is therapeutic and a good time to pray.
Girls # 2 and 3 were helping some friends make dresses. This turned into several days of work to include complications with sewing machines, working out complications with the origin design ideas, and etc. The work was finally completed today. Now they can focus on the tasks at home that need doing.
