It has been a while since I have sat and written anything here (or anywhere for that matter). This is the time of year when life gets overwhelming and this year has been particularly difficult. Last year was hot and dry, this year we have had cool and wet. Our garden has not produced well all season, and this day it feels more like fall than summer. Last week I managed to get the spearmint cut back. This week I got the front entrance cleaned up; it was beginning to look like a weedy mess. I have been suffering from a foot injury all season, and this week I did a little hop and skip on it and did more damage. I am going to have to get a pronation stablizing brace and perhaps keep off of it more than I would like. It hurts when I first get out of bed and then I do fine after I am up and about....BUT, if I go outside and walk on that uneven ground it pains me. Tonight I called Darling Hubby and asked him to please come pick me and the garden stuff up in his go buggy. I don't think I could have walked back to the house by myself without doing more damage. I should have quit sooner. Other things to report, we have at least four humming birds that regularly frequent our feeder and our butterfly bush. We also have butterflies that like our bush. Sadly, we have seen no Monarch Butterflies year. I keep letting the milkweed grow for them but I am beginning to think they will never return. Hubby has been trying to get his summer chores competed. The slope of the roof around the chimney has an angle that makes sweeping the chimney more than difficult. He decided he wanted to perch a crows nest up there so he could work more safely. The first obstacle to that was finding a welder willing to do the work he wanted done. Then there was the concern about scratching the new roof with ladders. And then there was the obvious problem of having it not sick out like a sore thumb. This is the roof line that has the chimney on it. Don't you just love that antique lightening rod? Yes that is really a glass ball on it! The platform for standing on.... The matching ladder! The lighting is off on this one but the finished product. The love of my life!!! |
