We looked at all kinds of flooring options. Brought home some samples and spent time discussing all of the options and costs. We really missed our Menards store where someone is always willing to help you and asks if they can do so; as if they like their jobs…In one of the big box stores here, the person that worked in flooring went AWOL and no one could find him/her. In the end the manager gave us two pieces of tile for free for making us wait at the register because there was no price tag on it…and I suspect he had heard that we had wanted help back in that department and didn’t get much. After leaving this store, we stopped by a G&W so I could see if I could find something to wear to church. (The clothes I left hanging in my closet three years ago were all two sizes too big on me.) I found a Calvin Klein skirt to my liking and a couple of comfortable shirts.
Another complaint I had about the two box stores we visited they did not have some of the things that I have seen in Menards. There was a couple of things I was looking for, but one item in particular I was counting on learning more about and perhaps even purchasing it. It simply was non-existent.
From there we went to go look at some used toilets. The location was a bit further away than I had originally thought it was going to be but in the end it worked out to be a wise trip. We ended up with two fairly new matching Kohler toilets, two new looking sinks with nice quality faucets on them and a dishwasher. The whole truck load was $135!! We priced these items at the next stop which was a Lowes and we figured that we saved at least $500. The place that sells this stuff is an interiors removal company. The owner said that it all came out of an assisted living facility. Every time they turn over tenants they redo the bathrooms and kitchens. The dishwasher looks clean like it was never used. The company then sells the stuff that is in good working order.
We thought we had a very nice stove lined up but it didn’t work out for us. So I will continue the search for that. All we lack at this point is a stove and a range hood. And perhaps a backdoor, we priced one last evening and found that the existing one is a standard size (unlike the one at the back utility room which was originally only a closet door.—There was some growling going on when Hubby replaced that one three years ago, because the new door did not fit properly and he had to modify the door frame.)
So while, I did not get any “work” done, we did have an extremely productive day. It was a much needed excursion and one that I enjoyed. Short of going locally in search of paint; shopping for a bit of food here and there, and back and forth to church, I have been nowhere since arriving here from one house to the other.
And with that thought, I am going to go grab a bite of food and put one foot in front of the other to accomplish as much as possible today.
