Monday was spent weeding in the mud....the peppers, tomatoes and carrots.
Major focus was put into the carrots. Carrots are not hard to grow but they are a pain to weed. Rather like untangling a knot and playing pick-up sticks at the same time. Once they get some size to the tops, they pretty much shade out the grass and weeds but there is always one big weeding of the season.
Hubby tilled around the peppers and tomatoes again. Plus, he staked and wove some tomato plants. Tomatoes are easy to grow rather like weeds, but if you want to out eat the mice, they must be either caged or staked and woven. Now cages are easy...you plant a stake and stick a cage over the top of the stake and plant....if you feel energetic, you make sure the plant grows inside the cage instead of poking out of it. I was lazy this year and just let the plant do its own thing.
The other method for tomatoes is weaving. I rather like this method because the plants seem to really spread out more. Weaving is planting the tomatoes close together, staking them and then weaving them up with cord.
Tuesday was more of the same. Hard work trying to clear away some of the grass and weeds.
Wednesday was a visit from another friend! It is always a joy to spend time with this delightful man.
Wednesday was also the day we found out that my Dad's wheelchair van needed some work on the fuel system. That was not a delight.
Thursday found Hubby working on the van and I heard several times about the idiots that design these vehicles so that Joe Six Pack can't work on his own car without a hydraulic lift.
While he fumed about the inaccessibility of what he was working on, I huffed and puffed with my hoe. I managed to dig about three of the 80 foot rows out of the grass.
Friday was spent in prepping for the farmers market and working it. We had the best market day ever and feel very blessed that the lack of produce does not seem to be slowing things down.
Saturday will be another hard day of weeding, tilling and mowing....while Hubby will probably continue to work on the van.
Maybe, I will find time to take some pictures....
