Last week we made a trek to a friend’s place to collect up her composted horse manure. It is good stuff! I have a small A-Frame greenhouse…well it used to be a chicken coop but earlier this year I covered it with plastic and it served me well. I cleaned that out and we put several wheelbarrow loads of composted horse manure in there. I dug up a beautiful tomato plant that came up as a volunteer. I have no idea what kind it is but it is broadleaf so it must be one of the heirlooms that had been planted in that area of the garden last year. I seriously doubt I will be able to get it to fruit but it won’t hurt to try. I tucked it in the corner of my little green house.
Around it I transplanted a bunch of kale plants. Then I sat the potted jalapeño plant back in the back. That was enough for one day. Later this week, I will go in and seed some lettuces. The goal here is to eat out of our little greenhouse until it gets too cold to survive. While we are predicted to have cold blasts we are not supposed to be as cold as the last two years.
Today has been the start of some deep cleaning. I needed to start in my closet, an area that often catches everyones extras. As an example, the yellow sweater:
Earlier this summer one of the daughters brought in a big bag from my mother with instructions to take it to the G & W. A few hours later, another daughter came in and said that Gma instructed me not to get rid of the yellow sweater that was in the bag. I made a mental note to remove it later.
The yellow sweater is my Dad’s. I have rarely ever seen my dad wear a sweater. Must be where I got my dislike for sweaters and a preference for a loose fitting over shirt or jacket. Well anyway….
The next trip I made to the apartment I was personally instructed by Mom to not get rid of the yellow sweater. Dad promptly spoke up and firmly said he didn’t want it….Mom went on to say that she wanted him to wear it….I pointed out to her that if Dad did not want to wear it then why keep it. She went on to instruct us that she did not want him wearing his sweat jacket because he would look less hot in that yellow sweater during the summer… I argued in his defense, I won’t say I won but I was able to extricate myself from the discussion with some graceful by changing the subject.
A few weeks later, Mom asked me about the sweater. I told her I still had it. That seemed to be good enough because she didn’t demand I bring it out and since then nothing more has been said about it. So the sweater lives in my closet until the next time she asks about it.
In the process of cleaning the closet I found that we may have a mold issue to deal with. If that is the case it will not be an easy fix like removing carpet. But for the moment that will be put into the “I will think about it tomorrow…” category. There are other things we must attend to first.
