It occurred to me earlier today as I was pondering Dad, that he has had a slight change in medicine...he was on a time released metopropolol and due to the expense he changed to taking the same medicine twice daily. So instead of a slow release he has been getting bigger dump at a time. If my suspicion is right in a few days his body should adjust and hopefully we will see some more leveling out.
He has managed to get himself out of bed at least once in the past few days and he has been able to transfer to the toilet by himself. These are definite positives. We continue to push fluids as much as we can and I have begun to make having some kind of lunch no longer an option.
Part of the food problem is that he has lost so many teeth that eating is a chore. I have been talking with Mom about options for foods that he can eat without too much trouble. Unfortunately, when one thinks of soft foods they think pudding, ice cream, fruit with cottage cheese, crackers with sweet stuff on them, etc. I am not a sweet eater and milk is not my favorite food group. So when I think soft foods I am thinking what kind of meat can he eat??!! I have come up with an idea to try something like meatballs cooked in a sauce. He likes hot dogs and the past two days they have been part of the lunch he has had. I plan to go to the store soon and wander around looking for protein ideas that do not involve lots of sugar.
Right now is corn season and he loves fresh corn. So tonight I cut it off the cob and put it in my mini food processor and tossed in a chunk of butter. (I consider good grass fed butter a necessity for healthy living). I tried to get it 100% smooth but it still had the texture of the corn skin but I think he will be able to consume it without having to work too hard at chewing it. Dad is a man that always chewed his food 50 strokes before he swallowed it—it drove me nuts as a kid….He has always been a very slow eater and with the loss of teeth he has not gotten any faster.
On to a different topic. Last week, I totally changed my Lyme protocol. I felt like I was at a plateau and was not improving any longer on Cowden. So I switched back over to what I was using before I started on Cowden…a great opportunity to use up expensive pills and oils. (At 20K per year treating this mess, we don’t throw nuttin out! ) It must be working because I have really felt some of the symptoms fighting me. Fatigue mostly, and I have had some low grade frontal headaches. That is weirdly different for me. And of course the bladder flair up and also the odd thing that happens with one of my teeth feeling loose. Oh yes, and my eyes are bothering me and I discovered a new floater tonight in my left eye. I don’t usually have them there. And my heart has been giving me a few little skips…I haven’t had that in a long while either. And then there is the odd little thing that happens in both ears at the same time. I really can’t describe it because it does not affect my hearing or my tinnitus but both ears at the same time have something odd happen to them. It happened twice last night a few minutes apart. I consider these all good things, it means what I am taking is shaking things up and you can’t kill the little critters if you don’t shake the tree. The key is not to shake the tree too hard because it might fall on you!!
The rain has finally stopped and the temperatures have begun to heat up…I replanted some beans and beets and have begun a row of greens. It is odd for me to not be frantically gardening this time of year. But this year it has been a blessing…
