My time on the ranch is about over. I love it here, particularly this time of year when the weather is favorable. I came to support my husband and to care for him but I need to be going back north while there is a break in the weather.
While here I have focused more on my husband and less on my father-in-law. I have made sure hubby has had meals three times a day, conversation when he comes home, and overall encouraged him to relax and rest as much as possible. Did the necessary laundry, light housework, and in some ways had a bit too much time on my hands.
Zeb’s dad is very dependent upon him at this time and I know that is difficult for him, thus I have not tried to crowd him so as not to make him uncomfortable with some of the embarrassing aspects of this time in his life.
He has had a rough time of it but after an adjustment in meds there has been great improvement. Due to the meds, there was a delay in the therapy. This has slowed down his recovery time. Zeb had a meeting with the staff and it was decided that Dad needed to stay in the rehab for another two weeks. He is about at the half way point where he should be in strength.
The rehab facility is less than desirable but the staff, with the exception of one nurse that Hubby calls, Nurse Cratchet, has been fabulous and caring. For that we are thankful. We had the option of transferring him to the rehab up by the farm, but we felt that it would be less stressful for him to continue with the nursing staff that are familiar with him and his needs. He has not needed nursing care per se, but he has required a lot of supervision, most nights someone has sat with him all night. That is improving as the drugs have been changed and as he has gotten used to the dosages.
