While talking with my daughter I was washing dishes and then prepared a couple of the rabbits for our evening meal.
After that I decided I had goofed off enough for one day. I went and weeded the rest of the second onion row that got left undone last week. Then after making a trip to the house, I went and weeded a section of the carrot row.
The carrot row is always extra fun because the grass always gets bigger than the carrots really quickly but if you weed the carrots when they are two small you end up killing them. I side dressed a little compost to the fragile plants as I went along.
By the time I was done with that it was six-ish and I didn't really feel like making myself work any longer so I meander up to the house, but on the way decided that I could chop down the straggly looking daisy out of the front flower bed. It looked pretty good this year but by now the daisies are about done and the oregano is trying to take over. And the attempt at poison ivy eradication last year was a failure. That vine crawling up the flowering almond is just plum scary looking to me. But overall my mother, is quite happy with the way it looks so I have succeeded at making that one issue in my life work.
Well, having chopped some at that I decided that I needed to trim off the rose bushes on the other side of the sidewalk. That big wind on Saturday was pretty hard on the flowers. In the process, I decided that I should pull the grass that had grown out from under the plastic. (The roses are planted in an area that has plastic and then rock landscaping) One of the rose bushes has some nasty grass so I go my hand in there and tugged...the bush was loose in the ground and the bush reached out there and ripped my glove and cut my arm. So I decided that I needed to make another trip up the hill to the compost and get some dirt for that loose rose bush.
By that time I was beginning to feel like I was ready for my mint tea. So I went to the mint beds and collected up the usual variety in the process thinking that tomorrow the soil would be just right for cleaning that particular area. With that last thought, I went into the house, took a shower and in a moment will be enjoying my nightly cup of mint tea and shortly after that the family will gather around to see if I did an okay job on supper.
