The Lewy Dad is fighting an infection, this has been going on for a week now. While it was looking like it was improving it certainly does not look like it is going to be all better by the end of this round of antibiotics. While no one is really using the "M" word, it is pretty much agreed that MRSA is at the root of this. We fought yeast for a couple of weeks and now this.
The other elderly dad has begun to eat a bit more and I have stopped fretting over him about that. Fretting did no good, it just made him be more obstinate. I did have a couple of hard talks with him. I wish I had more time to blog and speak words of encouragement to other caregivers but the truth is that with three elders and the fight against Lyme and it's buddies...by the end of the day, I am too tired or some times just need my own encouragement. I admire these women that selflessly care for others and then stay up all night making beautiful encouraging blogs. Many have encouraged me; but I go to bed at night and sleep. And I am thankful to my God that he allows me to sleep after the battle I have seen my oldest daughter go through.
((BTW the oldest daughter has had a bit of improvement on that front. She seems to cycle through periods of sleep improvement but overall, she is sleeping better. ))
Hubby and I have continued working on the mold remediation on my parents apartment. After a lot of this and that, only a couple of days later to discover that we still had a problem--not as bad, but still a problem, we started to rip up the carpet and we are hoping this it going to be it. We knew when we put this carpet in that it might have to be replaced sooner than later. But Mom agreed that was okay. I had bought some nice risers to get the carpet off the floor in a couple of spots. We did find an alternate product that we think (hopeful) will be almost as good (but not as expensive) that we can cover the whole floor with. We may have to lay down some thin plywood for the sake of the wheel chair but we will think about that when we start the actual work.
After a couple of days of working with the mold, I began to have some inflammation in the back of my neck and I lost hearing in my left ear. I am still fighting that feeling of inflammation and my ears are still ringing more than normal but most of the hearing has come back. Knowing how sensitive I am to mold to begin with and knowing that it aggravates Lyme symptoms....well, I knew better, but one has to do what one has to do. I have tried hard to keep the girls out of this cleaning process and I insisted that Hubby wear his filtered mask when he was examining along the baseboards. (Oh yes, he does have a nice one but forgets to wear it!) We have kept the windows open and done as much airing out as possible for the parents sake.
Hubby started his protocol this week. This is a program that moves with baby steps so there probably will be no gigantic improvements to begin with.
Other non-interesting things:
Early in the week our dryer died...with the need to keep up with the daily loads of wet linens it got replaced within 24 hrs. A year ago, our dryer croaked and we replaced it with an older model that had belonged to Mom. It had been stored in the barn and I was thankful for it, but it was small and ran overly hot so I confess that I had not been content with it...so needless to say, I welcomed the new one. But as with all things like this, it was not a smooth transition. The external vent needs to be shortened so that it will sit more flush to the wall. Another "to do" for poor Hubby's "to do list".
Secondly, I took the time to sit down and pack up our Farmers Market box for the season. Before snapping the lid on, I added in the empty cash boxes after I tallied up the overall market income. Nothing earth shattering but after everyone got their cut it was a sufficient pay check. We are vaguely thinking forward to next season but not too hard...
...so for now, I will move on to the next thing....
