I didn't really take it easy, as in lounging in the bed all day. In fact this is the first day all week that I have not spent some down time. Instead with the car out of the garage, and that it was a bright sun shinny day, I decided to do some much needed cleaning in the garage. I thought if I piddled at it I would manage to make things look better. So I piddled along and while it is still rather piled the market stuff has been organized and things were swept and some things were thrown out so for now it is good enough. Until we get the kitchen remodeled there is no real way to do any deep cleaning....
When I got done with that it was time to think about supper for the Dad. He was fairly demanding on that front. After that I went to collect the eggs. The youngest daughter is in charge of the layers, so I went out to take her place, only to get my feet peeked because I unwisely wore my clogs instead of my boots. Silly woman!
I am pleased to say that with the addition of the new layers we finally have a bit of surplus in the egg department. We aren't ready to start selling them but we no longer have to supplement with eggs from other farms.
Hubby worked today on getting more carpet down. He was happy to announce that he had all of the front living space and the hallway done!! That leaves the back bedroom area....
On a completely different note....I made a discovery this morning. If you totally dislike greens of any kind (i.e. mustards, collards, kale, etc) then this is of no interest to you. We call ourselves a southern family and that means we know how to appreciate greens. Except turnips. I confess, turnip greens are my least favorite coming in a squeak ahead of dandelions. I like turnip roots with some things and I hate to throw out the greens. This year they are particularly nice looking....and I know that I have had some of the "old ladies" make turnip greens in such a way that they were good....so the nastiness of them had to be the person that cooks them. I went on line looking for some way to be frugal and not have to toss these in the compost. Not a lot out there for turnip greens (that ought to tell ya something right there!!) I did find one recipe that makes a dip and honestly that did sound good but since I had no need for a dip at the moment...I decided I would go ahead and clean them and cut them up and think about them "tomorrow". As is our habit to eat a veggie with our eggs I pulled them out of the fridge this a.m. and opened the bag to discover that the horrible "turnip gas" smell was gone. I fried them up with some onion in butter and everyone said they were good!! This was something since 4 of the 5 of us usually have to force them down as famine food. So, is the secret to air them out a bit before cooking them? I will continue to experiment with this....
Hubby's dad had a good going over yesterday with the nurse. It is determined that he needs to be on a water pill which also means that he needs to be on potassium. It was also reaffirmed that the wheezing sound is not his lungs but coming via his vocal chords. It is such a distressing sound that it worries the nurses. But his oxygen was 97, he had no problem breathing through his nose and she could hear nothing unusual in the lungs. It can be most distracting and honestly be a bit annoying from time to time but it does not seem to bother him in the least so those of us that live with him try to ignore it as best as possible and even use it to gauge his level of calmness or lack of.
