Yesterday was spent in burning and garage cleaning. In the past, we have had a real battle with brown widows due to a night light that is attached to the side of the house. We would come home after a time and the western side of the garage would be covered in them. It would be nothing to kill over 200 in an afternoon. This past year, Hubby turned off the night light and thus our widow problem was almost nil. Almost everything in the garage was hauled out and a fairly deep cleaning was done. We checked the baby grand and it is not showing too much wear for the worse by being stored in the garage. One of these days we are hopeful that it will be a fine addition to our oldest daughter’s home if it doesn’t rot down first.
Hubby did most of the garage work…and bless him, he even dug us a burn pit—a place to burn limbs and boxes and paper stuff. I worked on the jungle in the backyard. While I did not get done I put a big dent in it…I am hopeful to get back to it before we leave and make it look even better.
I was not sure what I was going to tackle today. I worked pretty hard yesterday and I was not sure how strong I was going to feel. Plus, Hubby had an appointment to keep at 1:30 so I knew he would not be around for a part of the day to help me. So after a late breakfast and my after breakfast cup of hot tea I decided that I would just go up and look at the attic. We have found that the attic is the best place to store fabric. It stays very dry and the heat does not seem to hurt it.
I asked Hubby if he could wire in some new lights so that real organization could be had up there. He agreed, but like many things, it was more complicated than was expected. My Dad was a jack of all trades and was fairly good at most of them but some of his electrical wiring looked like he was from the generation that brought electricity into the home. Hubby made sure fireboxes were put into place and modernized things a bit.
I spent more time carrying things to the burn hole. I was a bit in awe at how many empty boxes had been taken upstairs. There were enough to build a cardboard city. I still have not gotten everything down. The headspace requires you maintain a bent over position and my back can only stand a few minutes at a time working. So I would work up there and then come down and sort through things and then I would go back up….and then I would burn boxes and papers. So I was up and down for several hours. I am a bit tired tonight.
In reality I found that there isn’t really a lot up there and while I am building a thrift store box the truth is that there isn’t a whole lot that I want to get rid of. Organization is what was needed more than anything!!
Until next time…
