I wanted to report that the Dad has had a good day today. He has had the most coherent speech that we have heard in weeks. While has hallucinated and was very loud this morning waking us up before we wanted to be awaken; but overall, it has been a good day for him.
Of course what is considered a good day is relative. I judge it by his agitation or lack of; his ability to speak to us; his state of pleasant or unpleasantness; his physical strength; and the intensity of any hallucinations.
Last night he got his first dose of furosemide and with it a shot of potassium. (Shot as in shot glass--potassium is unber bitter and nasty and needs to be mixed with something like juice--I remember my Dad having uber complaints about it!!) The furosemide (for water reduction) has really helped. For the first time in days, the swelling is completely out of his face and neck. He looked handsome after Hubby gave him a shave and hair cut. I told him that and he smiled. (That in itself told me that he was with us and completely understanding what I was saying.) I tried to get a photo of his smile but the camera just does not catch the expression in such a way that translates the smile...so I will not include it here.
