With time he begun to eat and drink more and has regained some weight. While he still is not eating large amounts he is now eating three times a day instead of once and is consuming more fluids.
This entire time his leg has been in some form of immobilizer. He has been at times irritable about it.
On Monday, his six weeks are up and his legs will be freed from the confinement. This will create a whole new set of circumstances for us. The hip will need to continue to be cared for and while he will be evaluated by a physical therapist we will need to keep him from trying to stand up and then falling down. The hospice nurse has suggested a Geri Chair with a tray. The tray will work as a means to keep him from getting up and the chair will keep him at a better angle than the transfer chair. He can be wheeled to a window, etc.
As his body has regained some strength, the hallucinations have increased along with his restlessness. He is also less calm when hubby is not in the room with him. He is still pretty much sleeping in the night and this has been a tremendous blessing, one that we hope continues.
