I wish I could say that all kinds of major things were accomplished in the past week. With the family gone for most of the week, I did manage to piddle around and accomplish some things…such as getting my closet cleaned out and reorganized a bit. There are still a few odds and ends that need to be put away but overall the path is much wider and we can actually get to the clothes now with some ease.
It is gardening season and while this past week was good planting weather, there was just one of me. Plus, we have this HUGE thistle problem that I have been trying to decide how to handle. Tilling them under last year was a BIG MISTAKE…I know that if you cut them or pull them that the roots will form rhizomes and start all over again with a vengeance. (I learned recently that poison ivy is like that as well)…but I didn’t realize that a complete tilling would just stir the whole mess up and make matters worse. I am pretty sure these are the dreaded Canadian thistles which are perennial—that my friends is very very bad…So, while we are loathed to use sprays on our garden area a decision was made that it was going to be necessary in order to get these under control.
This is a small showing of my problem. There are some large areas that look like this or worse....
The family had a great week away and on the way home picked up my grandmother’s sink from the man that sandblasted it and then put a new ceramic coating on it. He is the only man in this country that does this kind of restoration work. This was not a paint job but a new fired ceramic coating. The old sink was sandblasted down to the bare metal, at that point they found that the sink at some point had been cracked and welded back together, probably at the manufacture. We were a bit disappointed with the overall outcome. During the firing process, the ceramic bubbled in a couple of places but also understand that one cannot oversee what is going on inside of a furnace. I think we can touch them up with some paint and once the sink is in and in use, it will not be overly noticeable. This was probably not the easiest project he has had to do. his was an old sink (I am guessing it dates to the early to late 1930’s), and it was fairly well rusted and pitted-we rescued it from the junk pile. I think once we get it in and in use, we will be very happy with it. But that will have to wait, right now we are too busy with everything else….
I am feeling fairly lousy today and the thought of adding the kitchen remodel into the mix of getting caught up with spring yard work, getting the garden in and keeping up with Farmers Markets demands causes me to quickly suffer from the feeling of being overwhelmed.
On the health front, everyone seems to have survived their week away with no problems, maybe because they were completely off their bug killers and detoxers…They have started back up and I suspect will all be crashing from reintroducing them. While they were away, I increased my killers and detoxers and increased my fluid intake from 3 quarts of water a day to at least six. Surprisingly, the excess water was far less of a problem than I had anticipated, as if my body needed it. But today, I am feeling bad again, perhaps it is due to not getting enough water yesterday or from working too hard or a combination of both.
Our first two farmers markets have gone very well. This coming Saturday we will begin working our second market. This one is always a bit slow in the beginning but overall it does fairly well for such a small town.
Also this week, the eldest daughter will be traveling to the southern part of the state to see a bioesthetic dentist for her TMJ problem. And Mom is going back to her spine doctor to see if another shot might be helpful…she is not feeling very hopeful about that.
