So after taking a day completely off I migrated back to my scanner and computer to work on the stack of photos. So far I have done 750 total. Some of them are less than perfect in quality but everyone of them is part of a larger story. That is one reason I am so drawn to photographs, and always have been. I have spent hours saving photos of grandparents, aunts, uncles, and some times people that I do not know for the sake of remembering their story of life on this earth. Some photos will tell you much about the character of the person, some are works of art, and some are just part of who we are.
Photos will also tell you about the time and place that a person lived. By reading the back story in a photo you can learn about how a person lived, what they liked, and bits and pieces of what life was like for them.
This job of scanning is not without some emotional ups and downs and I hope in the long run some one down the road, whether it be child, grandchild, or maybe even great-grandchild will be able to look back on the work I have been doing and be thankful that the time was taken to preserve these memories for them. But even if they do not, it has been a pleasure for me.
Today, I have picked the following as my favorites. My father-in-law's hospice aid used to comment that she expected he was a character when he was younger. This was not meant in a derogatory way, but one of affection. And the following is affectionately put up for you to enjoy the character that his family knew.
Sooner than later, I am going to run into the next generation of photos...actually, I have already begun.... I like this one for obvious reasons, this is my beloved about 33 years ago. His parents and sister had flown up to attend his basic training family weekend.
