Hubby’s dad has been having several problems of late, not the least, his inability to transfer well from his chair to the various other places he sits. This problem has gotten progressively worse this week and so bad the past two days that he has not been able to stand up at all.
This morning as we were getting him out of bed, it was obvious that his left knee was about 4-5 inches back from his right knee. We decided that his inability to stand on it might be due to the hip being out of joint. I remember that my husband’s mother had to go in a couple of times to have her hip put back in to place.
So instead of hubby going to church with the girls, he loaded his dad up for the ER. That meant I got to go to church today!! When we came home from church, hubby was still not home….so I gave him a call to learn what there was to learn.
Yes, it was out of joint but the ER doctor did not want to try and put it back in without having an orthopedic team there. So he sent hubby and Dad to another hospital where the ortho guy was on duty.
They were able to successfully put the joint back in place and send them on their merry way. The dad is in a temporary immobilizer and tomorrow he is supposed to be fitted for a less temporary one. He is to wear it for six weeks. This will certainly not make him happy. But I am thankful for a more permanent model. He probably needed something like this after he had the surgery because he would rip that one off and it was a constant chore to try and keep it on him. No doubt he is not going to like this one and it is going to require that a bit more attention be given to watching him.
Hubby sent me off to the G and W to find some larger sized pants to put on him to keep him from ripping the immobilizer off. And then a pair of shorts to put on him backwards to keep him from ripping the pants off and then ripping off the immobilizer and then ultimately the night time brief that he is going to have to wear in order to keep the immobilizer dry.….We are not 100% sure how well this arrangement is going to work…
This might be the event that causes us to work night time shifts. I know that hubby will not rest well tonight in order to keep an ear on the situation.
