One does not realize how many odds and ends that they have until they begin to empty out their living spaces. Having moved many many times over our military career, I knew what to expect. I also knew that his house was full of odds and ends... everything from paper clips to scraps of paper with notes written on them. Plus things like airplane parts, which have some value to the right person. Etc. etc.
Another truckload of stuff went to the Habitat yesterday. I was afraid it might be more than they could handle since they have a fairly small storage area…the manager told Zeb that they would take all that they could get. They currently have enough money for three houses and are trying to raise enough for five. This is there busy time of year because of the winter residents. I prefer giving locally to Habitat because I am a thrift store shopper and I personally like the Habitat stores, it is more like thrift store shopping before it became shabby chic. I once got a $350 vacuum (that was the used price not the new price) for $10. The new manager here is more computer savy and puts prices on things that are a bit higher but still...way below used market values.
On the bigger front, Hubby and #3, with very little help from me were able to move the organ out of the living room. I have no idea how Hubby is going to get it off the trailer at the G&W (Habitat won’t take an organ-they can’t sell them), but surely, they will have a few folks standing around that are getting paid that can help him.
We also are getting rid of three recliners and a swivel chair. I’d like to say the living room looks bare but it actually kind of has that junked up feeling at the moment. (AGAIN!) I am sure that by the time we get done with the work before us today that it is going to feel worse. At the moment, I am trying not to panic about the clutter everywhere. I have to stay focused on the work ahead of me and let the clutter fall by the wayside for now. Clutter can be sorted out later. At this stage, we are beginning to push into the coming spring weeks and soon every extra day I spend down here is going to put me further and further back for my market garden endeavors and that means I will be losing money before I know it.
It is my goal to get the inside of the house painted before the end of the week. I might even be able to start today, although that seems almost too grand of a plan even in my own mind. The goal is that I am going to start painting and within a few hours after it dries, Hubby will go along and start to pull the carpet out in sections. We are hopeful that the concrete is good shape because staining it is being seriously considered. It will be way less expensive than tile and it is absolutely beautiful. If you have never seen stained concrete take a look here.
