For over an hour I had been looking for a McDonald’s to get a cup of coffee, by now, I needed to go to the bathroom and I really needed the coffee. We got off at the exit, expecting the tire to blow any minute….and right at the end of the exit was a McDonald’s. So we pulled in and got out and went to the bathroom and got a cup of coffee. I got on the phone to Hubby and he told me to take it to the tire shop that he found on the internet. (It was almost closing time….so he called a head and asked them to hold the doors for me…)
So in the rain, I nursed the car across the overpass and in to the tire shop parking lot. They took a look at it and said that it was not the tires but the brakes. He said they could not fix it tonight and quoted me a price of almost $600. I got on the phone again with Hubby. We decided since it was not a tire but a locked up brake calipher….that we should go get a hotel and something to eat and that Hubby would come over with the truck so we could make our appointment in the morning.
I went west over the overpass, to the Best Western by the McDonald’s and being told rather brusquely that they did not have a room for me. (Felt more like I was not welcome.) I went back across the overpass (again) to the Comfort Inn. By this time I was getting very rattled and was hungry. I had no idea what kind of room I was going to find….
I was pleasantly pleased. The front desk was very friendly and the room was clean and spacious. They told me about a restaurant back across the overpass….So #3 and I again headed out in the rain and across the overpass to a restaurant called Sylvia’s. A clean friendly kind of place, but they didn’t have some of the things on the menu and those included what we wished to order….So we both ordered the special and I instantly regretted it when it showed up at the table. It was covered with gravy….gravy in restaurants always are loaded with MSG. I picked my way through the meat, enjoyed my salad and baked potato….by the time I got back to the hotel, I felt a bit woozy and like I needed a shower and to get my feet up.
Then I wanted to log on and it took me forever to get the WIFI to work.
Overall, the evening did not go as planned. We were supposed to be 60 miles away in another hotel after eating an enjoyable meal at a favorite Mexican restaurant. BUT we are very thankful, that we are not aside the road in the rain with a broken down car. God has looked out and protected us this day and delivered us to a nice hotel, and we plan to sleep restfully before starting out in the morning with the truck…
