I don't know if it was just because I was so very hungry when we finally got to eat or if my body has just gotten hyper sensitive...but I had a horrible food reaction and I am guessing based on MSG. I have had MSG reactions for years and I try to pick my food wisely when I go out to eat and I almost always regret eating out because of the MSG....
But this time it was really bad! All of a sudden I began to feel absolutely horrible, feeling the blood pound through my temples... I ordered a cup of coffee because that usually helps some...and it did help some....
We went on to the grocery store where I ran into pick up a gallon of milk and a few odds and ends for Mom while she sat in the car.
By the time I got home, Mom settled back in the apartment and myself back to the house, I was still feeling absolutely horrible. I sat down and asked Mid Kid to take my blood pressure.
My BP was fine but my heart rate was 107 after sitting in a chair for several minutes. This was a good two hours after I had eaten. Two hours later, Hubby took my vitals and my heart rate was still at 86 (a tad high for me) after I had been laying in bed for almost two hours.
I know that over the years, as I have eaten less and less MSG the more sensitive I have become to it. Usually I had the tightening of the chest and swelling feeling, never anything like what happened today that was more a kin to anaphylaxis shock.
I do not know why they call this hyper sensitivity "Chinese restaurant syndrome". Monsodium glutamate is in everything!!! If it comes in a box, bag, or a can more than likely it has MGS in it (although sometimes under a different name) It is in every sauce, gravy, seasoning and salad dressing if you eat out...It is in foods you get from health food stores and combined with "organics".
AND no,it is not a mental disease--Mid Kid will toss it all up on the floor if she gets too much. And after today, I am going to be much more careful and concerned about it.
