The oldest daughter and I did our Friday Farmers Market in the rain. The event was cut short a bit but by that time everything was damp. In the past we have actually done well in the rain. Some people enjoy being out in a light drizzle….We didn’t have a great day but we made more than the gas money and we were there to support the other vendors and that was all that mattered. Being part of a good small town farmers market is a commitment not just in time but in relationship with the other vendors. Because small town markets do not get the volume of traffic of the big city market, it is essential for the vendors to support one another by being there for each other. When a group does that and turns out not just for themselves but in order to be part of the larger group the market is more apt to thrive. For instance, we have an egg man that week after week would set with the rest of us after he had sold out of eggs. He could have gone home but he always stayed and talked with the customers and basically kept his tent up in order to support the rest of us. Likewise, when we have days like this, we are there to support him.
It is wet here and continues to rain. We have had wet years before and no doubt we will have wet years in the future. I am trying to decide if it more difficult to stare at the sky and beg God for rain or to ask him to let it stop for a while. Either way, it is the reliance on God knowing that he provides both and knowing that our income is in part reliant on the rain, sunshine, temperatures, and winds.
I hear that Hubby is supposed to be on his way home tomorrow. He drove a car out west for his sister and she is supposed to be bringing him home. For this I am thankful. He has been gone now for six weeks.
I have missed him….
