The hospital ran some tests, took some x-rays, and pumped a bag of water into him, then sent him home.
Also at the ER they lanced some boils that needed doing. He had an appointment the day before but the whole town was out of power due to an ice storm. Because one of the boils needed to be taken care of they went ahead and did that at the ER.
His new eye doctor identified a bacteria growing on his eyelids, so he is being treated for that. Because of this he did not get the shot. The good news is that she said his eye looked terrific for not having a shot for two months. So that is encouraging.
I got Mom out of the apartment yesterday. She is living with pain and I know it suits her to blame not going out on the weather but I also know that she does not have much get up and go due to her pain. While she was washing her hair and getting ready to go to town I vacuumed her floor, picked up and put away a few things. Come spring, I plan to take my team of ladies out there to deep clean and perhaps do some touch up painting to fresh up the baseboards, etc.
On the weather front, I woke up to lightning and thunder this morning. Strange this weather we are having this year. Then tonight we got another good down pour that washed a lot of the snow down so we had some mild flooding, which brought on the following adventure.
I was just fixing to get into a bath when my phone rang and it was Mom. She proceeded to tell me that she had gone to the bathroom and after Dad went in there he found the floor all wet. He thought she had peed on the floor. Surely, she didn’t pee that much on the floor…could I please come out and clean up the mess and figure out where it was coming from. So, I grabbed up a hand full of rags and headed out.
To fully understand this story, you have to know that my parents have an apartment inside the barn. And while we have had to deal with flooding before it was because there were some foundational cracks that had to be filled. Once Hubby accomplished that there has not been another issue with flooding.
The bathroom is on the side of the apartment that faces inside the barn. Upon arrival, it was obvious that this water was coming from the wall facing inside the building. Hubby went out to find the source of the water while I began moving things and mopping up the floor. Then I called the ladies in the house and commanded them to bring out the shop vac and some more rags. AND the push broom.
The long and the short of the story was that the inside of the barn was flooding. Hubby declared that there was nothing that could be done. (Which is not like him, he usually can come up with a fix for everything but he was exhausted last evening and emotionally spent. I was determined to not let my parent’s apartment flood. So I started sweeping water. As I swept 2 x4’s were put down to direct the water away from the outside of the apartment wall. After a few minutes Hubby saw that I was serious about not letting their place flood even if it meant I had to sweep the water out all night. He took over the broom and I came to the house to put on a pair of jeans. (I had gone out in shorts thinking that if I had to get down on the floor and mop things up that I would be more comfortable in my baggy shorts than jeans.) By the time I was back on my way to the barn, I could tell that the water had subsided. And back inside, with the man with the broom, one could see that the threat was over.
In hindsight, I think what happened was the pile of snow that had been piled up on the north side of the barn for weeks, melted and was running down hill and part of that downhill was through that big crack on the north side of the barn.
To Do List Summer 2014---fix that big gap on the north side of the barn.
To do List, sooner than later—seal up the floor between apart and barn.
I said to Mom after the crisis was over, “We manage to have some adventures don’t we?” She laughed. She really has become fairly good natured about these kinds of things.
