Now this is no ordinary stick on bandage...but something much more substantial. Foam pad bandage with sticky tape, then 8 wrapped with gauze over the elbow and then taped down. After the first morning our aid made sure that we got an elastic sleeve to cover this with. So this morning it was most disturbing to wake up again to this ugly hunk of flesh hanging off of the arm.
This morning Hubby saved his dad's arm to make some traction for the sticky foam pad.
Trying to think of a way to keep him from messing with the bandage I came up with the idea of a sleeve. Something that cannot be pushed up. Because that is what he does, he picks at it and pushes the bandage (and wrapping material up. The body is draining fluid through this wound and that makes all the dressing wet and more susceptible to being pushed up. )
Obviously we needed some kind of sleeve.....something with a cuff or means to keep it from being pulled up.
But when thinking of putting on "a sleeve" how do you get it to stay on? After talking to Hubby about this, we decided that something like an old shirt with the back cut out and the front cut out and the collar cut off might work. Essentially two sleeves connected by the yolk of the shirt to hold the two sleeves together thus putting the force of resistance to hold it on. Both cuffs were buttoned down and we do not think he can get out of the sleeves. (or at least we hope not) He might holler at us all night about letting him out but for his own sake we might be able to sleep through that.
Or he might turn into the Incredible Hulk and bust out of his sleeves.
