Our little Mini-mall had its big open house the Saturday after Thanksgiving and since then the news is spreading that our shops are in there and that it is really very nice. Not just an old junky building with junky stuff. About every day, someone new walks in and says they just heard about what has been going on in this obscure building. We are hopeful that by summer that the news will reach out into the neighboring communities and this little spot will be a “day trip” stopping point. The oldest daughter is learning a good deal about collectibles, and even being instructed by the resident antique dealer in what is truly antique. He has been so wonderful and kind to us.
The tree is up and standing beautifully in the corner of our living room. One lesson learned this year, do not wait a day after Thanksgiving to buy your fresh cut tree or you will not get one. We had to search a bit for the one we found. And then what we did find had all been “trimmed” to be tall and narrow. In the long run it fits more comfortably in our small living room but something about trimming up your Christmas tree to be narrow takes away from the beauty of the evergreen. I am thinking of planting my own Christmas trees next spring. I am rather tired of being at the mercy of the retailers and even the tree farms. In this area they are usually picked over if you don’t get them the week of Thanksgiving.
It has been agreed by the family that the gifts under the tree will be less this year. It has been recognized that orthodontic work during the summer was more important than stuff under the tree. Or that much needed new pair of glasses is more valuable than some trinket to add to the trinket box. That is not to say that the floor space will be bare come Christmas morning, but health has become a bigger priority than trinkets and baubles for every one.
Speaking of health, we went to the Lyme doctor this week. We told her our decisions about changing our protocol in Oct, and we told her the improvements and the lack of them. She was very supportive and recommended we keep doing what we have been doing and she added in something for mold detoxification once we get the carpet out of the kitchen.
I have been called to lunch. Mid-kid is going to surprise us.
